“Going green” or being green can save you money; not only through conserving energy and resources, but also through your insurance premiums! With advancements in cleaner technologies and more attention to the environment, some insurance companies are willing to thank you by lowering premiums for people who build green homes, drive less, or who own alternative fueled cars. Discount availability and rates vary upon insurance providers.

  1. Green Home discount: If your home is certified “green” with efficient and energy saving appliances this could grant you a discount! The idea of “green” buildings is that they reduce energy use, they’re safer, and they perform better than conventional homes, resulting in less greenhouse emissions and a less likely-hood of a loss.
  2. Green Vehicle discount: Owning an alternative-fuel vehicle, such as a hybrid or electric powered car, could possibly open a door to savings! Not only are insurers thanking you for reducing gas emissions, but some insurers believe drivers of hybrid or fuel-efficient vehicles can be less-risky customers. Companies have offered a 5% to 10% discount on premiums for hybrid drivers.
  3. Low Mileage discount: The less time you are on the road, the less likely you are to be in an accident; and fewer cars on the road means lower accident rates. If your annual mileage rate falls within 7,500 and 15,000, talk to your independent agent to see if you qualify! Driving less can reduce premiums.

As stated earlier, discount availability and rates will vary upon insurance provider. If you have any questions or would like to see if you qualify for any of these savings, feel free to contact us! We look forward to hearing from you.
